Spark Her Stride empowers 6-10 year old girls (rising first through fifth graders) in the Harrisonburg community through healthy activity (running), role modeling, and a welcoming environment for all levels of ability. Participants will meet twice a week during the month leading up to the Valley 4th RUN for warm-up activities, facilitated team building, a short lesson related to running, and various paces of jogging. Topics will include stretching, hydration, pacing, safety, motivation, and race day prep. Female volunteers with a passion for running, mentoring, and community will lead the sessions. Freezie pops will be provided post-practice.

All training sessions (besides the final one) will begin at the UREC side of University Park (1090 Devon Lane - travel through the Harrison Apartment Complex).

There is space for up to 25 girls and the cost is $35 which includes a tee shirt and entry to the Valley 4th RUN 5K. This program has filled in the past and we ask for a commitment to attend at least 75% of the training sessions. One adult family member or friend is encouraged to attend and participate in training sessions to support their Spark Her Stride participant. Family members planning to run the Valley 4th RUN will need to register for the race.
