Frazier Quarry
Technically speaking, a quarry is a place from which dimension stone, rock, construction aggregate, riprap, sand, gravel, or slate has been excavated from the ground. But we're not really "technically speaking" type people here at VA Momentum, so we asked our friends at The Frazier Quarry to tell us what it's all about...in their own words.
One quick side note before we get to that: we've been lucky to spend a considerable amount of time at the Quarry as we plan for the Frazier Quarry 5K. The place is incredibly cool, but more importantly the team there runs it as a tight, clean and safe operation. There's a lot of moving parts (literally, moving rocks), but they're a humble group of people with a job to do. A job that's a great service to our community. We're so thankful for their partnership and excited to host an event at a place as unique as this mini-Grand Canyon that's in our backyard.
A Note from Mike Frazier, Operations Manager at Frazier Quarry:
Since 1915 our crushed stone, a truly local product, has improved the quality of life in our local community. Whether it is the road you drive on, the building you inhabit, or the produce you eat, crushed stone plays a major role.
We welcome you to participate in the Frazier Quarry 5K. Get a rare look inside a rock quarry and experience what it is we do and where we do it. While rock quarries are inherently a dangerous place to explore, through the cooperation of state and federal agencies, and additional safety measures, you too will get to be a miner for a few miles as you dig for a new personal best.
